What sets our rollers apart from others?
The main traits of our rollers that we appeal to are listed below:
Super Silent The only sound that you should hear when these rollers are spinning atop a smooth surface is the low humming produced by the bearings
Durable Given the minimal contact made possible with the steel twin-ball-bearings, our rollers don't get heated quickly, so it is cool (literally), which helps to extend its useful life. Our rollers are also injection molded, which makes it that much more resistant to heat and friction. Even when subjected to prolonged wear, our rollers resist the tendency to overheat, disintegrate and cause stains all over the ground.
High-Speed & High-Load Capable While most cases rarely see a need for the high-speed capacity, our rollers provide the additional assurance of keeping up with your shopping gains, making sure to accommodate to the weight of your luggage as you travel. The best part of our rollers in this regard is they spin easier when you load them with heavier luggage. However, while this is an option possible for our rollers, we often advise against heavy loading your luggage bags for some customers because of our experience with poorly designed holders / casters that are not suited for high-load maneuvering.
"What heat? Where does the heat come from?" We have observed a few curious minds who are skeptical of our advice. The truth is that all systems with actuating or moving components will be subject to heat. It is merely a matter of how much heat is generated from the friction between parts that are in contact with one another.
For the case of rollers, a great amount of heat is generated between the inner shaft and the walls of the roller bore as it rolls. Given the material of the roller bore, you may expect to see something like this:
This is why steel ball-bearings are essential in the rollers. Most, if not all, industrial applications tend to see the implementation of steel bearings in their systems too. Not only do the ball-bearings provide a sturdy interior for the shaft to rest on, their inner-workings are responsible for minimising the contact friction created as the roller spins.
For those who are curious, most luggage bags are not equipped with rollers that have steel ball-bearings; but that does not mean that you are out of options if you are looking for one that is. If you have a handy grand (~SGD$1000) with you, you could invest in a Rimowa. You could also look into a Tumi, or even a Victorinox. Their rollers are designed and manufactured to have a single steel ball-bearing right smack in the middle of the core.
That's about as much insider information as we have to offer :)
While a single ball bearing sounds much better than none, that's still half of what is in our roller.
(P.S. If you are looking to get your rollers / wheels replaced, and/or if you keep running into the same problem with broken tires etc, you might not want to ask if we offer original wheels for replacement. That's like asking for a repeat of the tragedy that has already happened. )
