Frequently Asked Questions

Updated: Dec 6, 2024

Q1. Why do the wheels on my luggage bag break / melt although I haven't used the bag at all?

Depending on the age and brand of your luggage bag, recent years have seen more models adopting lightweight concepts that are low density with high plastic content. This applies for parts that see high utility as well, which includes the wheels and handles. These parts generally have a short lifespan, and have been observed to even deteriorate in storage over periods of 1 to 2 years.

Q2. Does LeatherTechnic adopt original rollers / wheels?

As we have explained previously, there are many downsides to original rollers these days, so the answer is NO. We choose to use old school rollers that last, if used and stored in proper conditions.

Q3. What determines if a luggage roller / wheel is "good"?

While the qualities that define a good roller / wheel might be subjective, we believe that there are three main properties that classify any roller / wheel used on a luggage - quietness, durability, and maximum load. However, much like there are two sides to a coin, rollers / wheels with all of the aforementioned traits are not without an inherent limitation, but we feel that these properties should take priority in forming a strong foundation for your travels (quite literally).

There is also a matter of how the rollers / wheels are installed, which is determined by the level of craftsmanship provided. All we can say is that we use professional tools to provide a clean and professional result. In our opinion, the repair works that we perform are akin to upgrades for your luggage bags.

Q4. Is there any guarantee for the rollers / wheels we repair?

As much as we would love to give our customers the affirmation that our parts are indestructible, it is not something that we can do. The biggest reason for this is because we can neither ascertain nor define how our customers should utilise their luggage bags, and our rollers / wheels for that matter. That said, this means we would not be able to tell or guide our customers away from the rough and undulating terrain to preserve the life of the rollers / wheels.

On this note, we would like to remind you that most, if not all, luggage bags are made of some fragile plastics and light-duty aluminum, thus should be handled accordingly. Therefore, all repairs cannot express or imply a guaranteed / warrantied result.

Furthermore, for Roller Hub Covers: While these are removed by us with the utmost care, due to its plastic nature, some covers can break during the process of removal and re-installation. The customer will assume this risk when they assign the job to us. As for 8 roller / wheeler luggage bags, the hub cover cannot and will not be re-installed.

We are also not responsible for any damaged tags / keys that are left on the luggage bags when they are sent in for repairs with us. Kindly remove all tags / keys before passing the luggage bag to us.

Q5. Why doesn't my luggage bag travel in a straight line?

A common problem that a few have faced. The problem could be caused by a few reasons, but most are innately a matter in the structure of the luggage bag. Depending on the manufacturing process, either the center of gravity of the loaded luggage bag mismatches with the center of the luggage, or the shape of the luggage causes the rollers / wheels to tilt at an angle, hence causing a slight lean towards a specific direction.

This is not a matter that can be easily resolved by simply replacing the rollers / wheels, and we are unfortunately not equipped with the tools to solve this issue currently.

Q6. My luggage bag doesn't travel in a straight line after repairing the rollers / wheels with LeatherTechnic.

This is a highly unlikely matter since, as we have explained before, the problem is innate and structural. Our repairs are non-invasive and do not alter the properties of the luggage bag as a whole.

However, if the customer should feel that this is the case, the onus shall be on them to demonstrate that the luggage bag is in fact able to travel in a straight line, at any given load, before proceeding with any repairs.

Q7. My luggage bag is missing an entire leg / holder / wheel, can it be fixed?

For most instances, we estimate that the effort for repairs generally outweigh the perceived economic value for said repairs. Hence we usually do not open the offer for this service in this respect.

Q8. Can I get a quotation to claim damages to my luggage bag at the airport?

As we only provide superior quality components and excellent workmanship, we are therefore not competitive, and thus will not participate in such exercises.

Q9. My roller / wheel looks like it melted through the holder, can it be fixed?

Luggage Wheel Repair, Luggage Roller Repair
Broken Luggage Roller and Damaged Holder

For most cases, yes. We do have the tools and means to repair such damages, however, surcharges will apply on top of the normal prices to replace the rollers / wheels.

Q10. I forgot the password / can't open the combination lock for my luggage, can I get it opened?

Simply put, no. However, we do offer a replacement service for combination locks (limited to certain models).

Q11. Can I change my rollers / wheels from 2 to 4 or from 4 to 8?

No. It does not matter which configuration you wish to swap to / from, it is simply not within the scope of services available. As we have mentioned, we do not influence the structure of the luggage bags in our repairs.

Q12. How long does it take to replace all the rollers / wheels?

Generally, if all the parts are available and there is no one in the waiting line, a simple job of replacing 4 rollers / wheels will take approximately 1 hour's time.

Q13. Is there delivery and collection provided?

No. We would recommend our customers to engage an external courier service if they are unable to find an accessible means to get to us.

Q14. Can I keep the old wheels?

No. Most, if not all, rollers / wheels from the normal range of luggage bags are cut, rendering them unusable.

Q15. Does LeatherTechnic charge GST for their services?

No. The company's current turnover is still within the range where GST collection is non-mandatory.

Q16. My luggage bag only has 1 damaged wheel. Can I only change 1 wheel?

Definitely. However, we would not recommend it, since there would not be consistency in the appearance of the rollers / wheels, which is still a consideration most people take into account in this age. Furthermore, the chances are that the other 3 rollers are likely to suffer similar problems in the near future; so why not save yourself a trip and get them all replaced at one-go?

For 8 wheeler luggage bags, you will need to replace the affected pair of wheels (2 wheels) if one of them is damaged.
